Claddagh Seniors

Senior Programs and Activities

Claddagh Seniors is a sub-group of older members which provides support, social interaction and the opportunity to stay connected to Irish community and culture. We celebrate Irish seniors in the community along with Australian seniors who have Irish ancestry. Anyone over the age of 65 with Irish heritage is welcome to join our activities.

Our seniors committee coordinates a calendar of monthly events, sending emails or letters several weeks before an event with instructions cost, event and booking details. Popular events include the annual January day trip to Mandurah, the St Patrick’s luncheon with band and our Christmas gathering.

If you are not in a position to attend our events, we also offer visits to retirement villages, aged care facilities or if you prefer, a regular check-in phone call from one of our volunteers.

We also run skills building activities, including online training to raise confidence using emails, video calling and applications that can increase connection with friends and family.

In 2020 members of the Claddagh Seniors Group participated in Claddagh’s very successful oral history project which included a book of excerpts from their oral histories which you can read here.

We receive funding from the Irish Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, Emigrant Support Grant. This funding enables the Claddagh Association to carry out our activities at a reduced cost to the Claddagh Seniors. Without this funding, we could not provide these events.
